Researchers in California a historic breakthrough in laser research have managed: They have a super-laser with the burning power of a star created.
The purpose of the new high-energy laser is the simulation of nuclear weapons tests, were genuine weapons tests must be avoided. The laser system but also for civilian purposes can be used. “We have the world’s largest laser system invented,” said California Governor, ex-Hollywood star Arnold Schwarzenegger in the presentation. “We are now here on Earth create our own stars.” Read the rest of this entry »

The density of any standard DVD is 51MB per square centimeter. Now Australian scientists have developed a new multilayer optical disk storage that is capable of placing 1.1 TB / cm ³.
Unlike current DVDs, the key to the technique of data storage is to store data in multiple parts of the site, but spread over 10 layers deep.
Each layer is filled with gold Nan particles that react to only one type of light. When the disc is illuminated with a laser and a color of a specific polarization, only the particles of the active layer corresponding to the color of that light. Read the rest of this entry »
Other than LCD TV, the future could become the breeding ground of projectors with high resolution. One example is the model ESLP 8K produced by Evans & Sutherland. By exploiting the laser technology can achieve very high resolutions, up to 8,000 pixels in 2D, but also wanting in 3D as in cinema of the last generation. Read the rest of this entry »
The world’s largest laser, developed at the National Ignition Facility (NIF), is ready to shoot and recreate the same fusion that occurs in the center of the stars. The experiment consists of 192 laser beams focused on small pellet fuel hydrogen. A process that starts a reaction that could be used to generate a clean and abundant energy. Building the laser has required an investment of 3.5 billion dollars and 12 years of constant work by scientists. The result is simply amazing. Read the rest of this entry »
The University of Colorado has built the world’s most accurate clock. Its margin of error is one second every 300 million years. Two lives could not see how this clock is advanced or delayed one second.
The atomic clocks of this type operate with atoms that act as if they were conventional pendulums. Are normally used but cesium atoms using the new strontium clock, which doubles the accuracy of the clock. The atoms in question are kept frozen in the clock through the action of a laser beam. Would you like to surprise your next presentation with Power Point? Well you can do with the new laser pointer Afterglow which is projected on the screen, a revolutionary system to improve the presentations. The invention won a prize in the Microsoft Innovation Award 2007 and now has just been launched.
The laser pointer can be used both as a drawing tool, such as to mark important points or simply as a cursor controller as a mouse. The most important thing is that Afterglow is also compatible with Power Point. Read the rest of this entry »
SciFi Soldiers wearing the latest technology. The Center for Engineering and Design for Soldiers in Natick is designing the uniforms more modern and resilient ever created. The soldiers of tomorrow will carry costumes with nano-antennas and other communication systems that will help them stay in touch with all kinds of drones or satellites. Also, the uniforms will be resistant to fire, bullets and lasers.
Apparently, the United States Navy is ready to turn its soldiers into super humans. The provided GPS maps available with radio communication systems, a helmet that detects snipers and armored this uniform. Read the rest of this entry »
